After midnight on the morning of February 28 in Washington, D.C., the United States and Israel began large-scale military operations in Iran. Operation Epic Fury (U.S.) and Operation Roaring Lion (Israel) were joint air campaigns between the two countries aimed at striking military infrastructure, ballistic missile sites, and Iranian leadership targets.

Donald Trump delivered a statement last night announcing the strikes, citing numerous instances of Iranian aggression ranging from the Iranian hostage crisis of 1979 to the attacks on Israel in October 2023. He claimed that Iran was rebuilding its nuclear program and developing missiles capable of targeting the U.S. mainland. At the end of his statement, he called for Iranian armed forces to lay down their weapons to receive immunity and urged the people of Iran to rise up against their government.

Iran retaliated by firing missiles targeting Israel as well as American forces stationed in Saudi Arabia and Jordan. However, retired General Jack Keane stated on Fox News that “the response from them is weaker than we thought it would be.” Israel remains under a state of emergency this morning, with many civilians moving in and out of missile bunkers.

Keane further noted that this would be a sustained operation lasting “weeks, not days” as both countries continue to conduct sorties over Iran.

Domestic and international responses have been mixed, with arguments on both sides. Omani official Badr Albusaidi, who participated in previous negotiations, called for peace and urged the United States to strive for global stability.

Republican Senator Thomas Massie opposed the strikes, claiming that this act of war must be authorized by Congress and arguing that the attacks are not consistent with an “America First” policy.

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) via Fox News called Massie’s remarks “bizarre,” stating that he stands with the United States Armed Forces and America’s Israeli allies.

President Trump takes decisive action to end the Iranian regime that has terrorized the world over the past decades. This is a big step forward in providing peace to the area by removing the evil Iranian Government and allowing the people to rise up.

This conflict is yet another regime change war in the Middle East. It is not America first and does nothing to benefit the American people. We are sliding deeper and deeper into another Middle East mess. So much for "no new wars."
